The Facility is currently supporting
water governance reform work in countries such as
Kazakhstan, Mongolia, Yemen and Kenya.
- In the SADC, WGF co-authored the report Mapping of Integrity and Accountability in Water Activities and Relevant Capacities in the SADC Region with partners WaterNet and CapNet.
- In Iraq, WGF is developing activities to strengthen the capacities of local authorities and civil society organisations in Integrated Water Resource Management. On May 15-17, 2007, WGF cooperated with other international bodies to organise a three-day conference in Amman entitled ‘Iraq Waters: the Road to 2050’. Conference summary can be reviewed at

- In Jordan, WGF is supporting the development of a joint programme to enhance capacity to adapt to climate change and provide sustained access to improved water supply sources.
- In Kazakhstan, WGF is supporting stakeholder participation in the water resources management decision making in the eight River Basin Councils of Kazakhstan and facilitating the implementation of river basin organisations. WGF is also publicising the experiences gained in Kazakhstan’s water reform and will disseminate the findings throughout Central Asia.

Fostering Improved Water Governance in the Kenya Water Sector through a Rights-Based Approach
- In Mongolia, WGF is supporting the formulation of a national plan to improve water supply and sanitation by linking water resources management and water services.
- In Yemen, WGF is supporting capacity building on integrated water resources management, water demand management, gender mainstreaming and institutional innovations for local councils and relevant government actors. The work includes dialoguing and networking processes.
- In Mozambique, WGF supported water reform activities to strengthen institutional capacity to improve long-term water management planning and implementation.
