National planning for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM)
WGF is providing policy and technical advice to the UNDP Global Environment Facility (UNDP-GEF) on national planning for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM). This involves implementation of IWRM demonstration activities in 14 different islands.

The programme is led by UNDP-GEF. The project has been developed by the Pacific Island countries, UNDP, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and SOPAC through the Pacific Water Partnership.

The aim of the regional project is to assist Pacific Island countries to implement applicable and effective Integrated Water Resource Management and Water Use Efficiency plans based on best practices and demonstrations. It will support the implementation of the Pacific Regional Action Plan on Sustainable Water Management that aims to improve the assessment and monitoring of water resources, reduce water pollution, improve access to technologies, strengthen institutional agreements, and leverage additional financial resources in supporting IWRM.

Partners: UNDP-GEF, Pacific Island governments, Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) and UNEP
