Water Integrity and Accountability Training Programme

Unethical practices can drain budgets within the water sector of up to 30% annually. This reduces economic growth, discourages investments, violates human dignity, increases health risks and robs poor people of their livelihood and their access to water.

That's why we think that all investments in the water sector should be complemented with activities restricting and fighting as much as possible unethical practices like corruption. This small additional investment in capacity building aims at saving large amount of money that otherwise would be lost for the sector. Increased water integrity will directly impact on socio-economic development and poverty reduction.

Together with the Water integrity Network (WIN), WaterNet and Cap-Net, WGF developed a capacity building programme including training materials on Water Integrity.

The programme deals with the issue of integrity, accountability and anti-corruption in the water sector - one of the least addressed areas in the governance of water resources and services. It builds institutional capacity, with decision-makers and water managers as the primary target group.

The programme challenges water stakeholders to consider and debate potential solutions while bringing their own experiences to the discussion. It builds capacity for effective development and implementation of anticorruption action plans, and produces "water integrity ambassadors".

Courses and training manuals exist in English, French and Spanish. Translation in Arabic and Chinese are in the process. You can read more about the training manual and download it for free by clicking the Training Manual link in the left side menu bar.

The trainings are tailor-made to fit the identified target group as well as regional conditions and sensitivities itself. They are run upon request if funding can be provided for.
